Abstract

This research investigates higher-order modulation schemes, such as 256-QAM and 1024-QAM, on the performance of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, aligned with the 3GPP evolution toward Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G architectures. By analyzing the performance of various modulation techniques, this work supports the downlink capacity improvements crucial for NSA 5G deployments where LTE-A serves as the control anchor. The system is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK and validated through real-time hardware testing on the MYIR Z-turn Zynq 7020 board. HDL code generation and implementation using Vivado and Vitis ensure a hardware-software co-design approach, showcasing system performance in near real-time conditions.
