Controlled optimization problems constitute a fundamental mathematical framework with wide-ranging applications in biomedical engineering and related fields. This paper surveys recent biomedical applications that employ optimal control formulations governed by ordinary and partial differential equations, including treatment procedures, neuroscience, medical imaging, epidemiological modelling, and emerging nanomedical technologies. The literature highlights both single-time and multi-time optimization approaches. We aim to bridge theoretical developments in controlled optimization with practical biomedical applications.
