Abstract

Digital commerce has more than USD 7.5 trillion transactions each year, but the current architectures of the Web 2.0 are structurally centralised, fee-driven, monopolistic on data, and exclusionary. Average transaction fee of around 2.7% limits merchant margins. Platform-controlled data ecosystems limit user sovereignty. Security breaches exceeded USD 2 billion in 2024. An estimated 1.3 billion unbanked individuals remain excluded from digital trade. Although Web 3.0 technologies - blockchain consensus, smart contracts and decentralised identifiers are trust minimised and user centric, enterprise adoption of these technologies is limited due to lack of integrated system level migration frameworks.

This paper introduces SYNCHRONIC (Synchronizing Next-generation Commerce via Hybrid, Resilient, Open, Non-centralized Interoperable Components), which is a seven-layer modular architecture that has been designed to support phased migration from centralized to decentralized commerce systems. The framework integrates protocol, identity, transaction logic, storage, interoperability, governance, and compliance layers of the UX into a unified stack which may be deployed step by step without disrupting operations.

Validation amalgamation of benchmarking of twenty Web 3.0 protocols and comparative case studies of peer-to-peer retail (OpenBazaar), tokenized logistics (Boson Protocol) and NFT marketplaces (OpenSea). The case study shows that on the platforms evaluated; transaction efficiency, user involvement and energy performance have improved significantly. More precisely, Boson Protocol was able to reduce transaction fees for merchants by around 81% compared to Web 2.0, based on the platform-specific fee structures that have been reported, and Polygon integration resulted in around 99.95% gas cost savings for eligible transactions. These results should be interpreted in the context of platform-specific conditions. SYNCHRONIC is the bridge between the theory of Web 3.0 and enterprise implementation of the architecturally grounded empirical blueprint for scalable, interoperable, compliant and inclusive digital commerce systems.
